This week has gone by fast. But that doesn't mean there hasn't been any news in the social media world. In fact, it's quite the opposite. There's so much going on that it can hard to keep track of. That's why we do it for you. Here's what you may have missed this week:
Mobile Facebook
Just today there was an article published that lets you go beyond your typical bounds and learn more about Facebook's thought process when it comes to going mobile. When Facebook was first invented, the number of mobile users, or even the ability to use a phone to access websites, was uncommon. But in today's day and age, it's a large part of the industry. For the last year Facebook has been focusing primarily on the mobile aspect of the business, trying to determine what will be the best fit for the company. I suspect that these changes are going to have a big impact on the way Facebook is used, especially for businesses.
Another New Platform
Chirpify, a new type of social media platform that has recently emerged, is trying to blur the line between social media as a way of connecting to other people, and as a way of marketing for businesses. Major business brands you may have heard of - such as Adidas, MasterCard, etc. - are also using Chirpify to increase the opportunities that social media users have to buy their products. Chirpify has a feature which allows social media users to click a hashtag (#) and then have the ability to make a donation, vote on a poll, or make a purchase, all through the social media site.
SnoutBook
A new social media website has arisen that is designed specifically with pets in mind. Petigram, a type of combination between Twitter and Facebook, allows people to share and discuss pictures and news about their pets. While this doesn't seem like it would be relevant to business or marketing at all, the success of this website may lead to some interesting changes in marketing for pet products. It is very possible that we will see brands and companies use this website as a way to advertise their pet-friendly products - such as cleaners - or just pet products in general--kibbles and bits, anyone?
The Twitterverse
A recent article has been published about how the popularity of Twitter is something businesses -or everyone, really - should take a look at. Since twitters conception in 2006, it has received so much use that it has swayed elections, shattered world records, and soiled reputations. This article will give you the basic rundown on how Twitter came to be, and how you can use that information to use Twitter better. Even if you avidly use Twitter now for your business, or steadfastly avoid it, it can't hurt to learn a little more about the social media world.
Instagram Marketing
Instagram, at the moment, isn't a very common marketing tool for businesses. However, it can be the perfect way for small businesses to attract new customers. With Instagram, small businesses have the ability to put a face to their businesses name. With this strategy, small businesses have seem their customer relationships flourish, as well as their sales. With Instagram you can also "build your brand". What this means is to use pictures on Instagram to add things that reflect your business, your companies motto, etc
