Pinterest: Bring More Attention to Your Business

You may have your own personal Pinterest, or this may be your very first time, either way this website can do wonders for your business. This social platform is great for displaying products and getting people interested. If it is your first time, you can join as a business here. Now we can go over ways to make the most out of Pinterest.

So, who uses Pinterest? Check out the above infographic.

Boards

Think of a board as a way of categorizing your post. With that in mind you can organize the products or services you offer with this feature.

Here are two examples of businesses doing it right.

Mashable's Pinterest

Mashable is a marketing website that knows how to really use Pinterest. See how they use their boards to  to make content navigation easier for their viewers.

GE's Pinterest

A company like General Electric rocking the boards may come as a bit of a surprise since Pinterest is usually associated with frills and home decor. Times are changing, though, and Pinterest is taking off.

Pinning

This will be the biggest thing you will do on the website. It is how you post content.

Rich Pins

  • Article pins include the headline, author, story description and link
  • Product pins include real-time pricing, availability and where to buy
  • Recipe pins include ingredients, cooking times and serving info
  • Movie pins include ratings, cast members and reviews
  • Place pins include an address, phone number and map

Think of rich pins as super pins that offer more information than just sharing someone else's content. Read more about how to use rich pins here.

Size

One thing to keep in mind is the sizing of your images. Pinterest is all about the visual, and your items need to be appealing and stimulating. Nothing will ruin a board like a distorted or tiny image that another user can barely see.

Guidelines:

  • Cover picture: 217x146 pixels
  • Profile: 165x165 pixels
  • Pins: Pixels are recommended at 238 with an adjusted height.
  • Expanded Pin: 735 pixels with adjusted height
  • Boards: Complete board size (including cover) will be 238x284 pixels
  • Tiny thumbnails: 51 x 51 pixels.

Tips

  • Include your branding in your pin. Post your logo or website if you are making an infographic or try to redirect users back to your website.
  • Keep your pins relevant and interesting. This is all about content.
  • This is a social site so participate in conversation. Comment, like, and repin. Others will return the favor. How else can we engage our followers? Keep it light hearted, interesting, and fun.
  • Add a "pin it" button to your website. You can do that here.

Involving the Customers

  • Contests: This works great over a variety of social media platforms. You can do stuff such asking users to create a great board showcasing your product or give discounts to someone gets the most repins.
  • Influences: Every platform has someone that pulls in a ton of influence. Pinterest is no exception. Find someone relevant to your page that really knows how to use Pinterest and build a following. Follow them and build a relationship. You never know what you can learn from it!
