The website is up and running for your organization, and the content is killer. However, it still isn't getting the attention or publicity it deserves, and you're stuck trying to figure out why. Here are five key items your nonprofit website may be missing:

5. Social Media

Social media ensures a relationship between the organization and the audience. Your website should link to different platforms so that readers can easily tweet a quote, share an article, or like the website. A YouTube video blog can enhance content and give insight into the nonprofit. Be sure to link everything from your homepage for simple navigation and easy access.

4. Mobile Friendly

Did you ever find a great link on your smart phone only to find out it barely worked when you opened it up? This could be your website if it isn't formatted to be displayed on smartphones or tablets.

A mobile friendly website is crucial since more people are relying on smartphones and tablets. You can prevent this by reducing your use of Flash, pop-ups, JavaScript, or other animations. Use a great image and keep the text short. For more advice, click here!

3. Media Section

A newsroom or media center not only makes life easier for a reporter, but it also helps with publicity. This feature is a section dedicated to press releases, events, downloadable media kits, and contact information for interviews or quotes. A few more helpful tips are available here.

 2. Blog

An addition of a blog enhances your website in a few different ways. It provides content and news updates that can keep readers coming back for more. This is necessary.

A blog will also contribute to search engine visibility. Regularly scheduled updates will make the website more likely to appear in Google searches. Find out more about search engine visibility or how a blog can help!

Lastly, and this relates to the media center, blogs are frequently quoted by newspapers and other blogs. Having one greatly increases your chance of more exposure. The blog could focus on a few updates on what is going on in the organization or a list upcoming events. You can even share posts from other blogs that relate to your own.

1. Donate and volunteer

A major nonprofit mistake is not having clear instructions on how to get involved or donate. It may sound obvious, but it can make or break your organization.

In terms of donating, do not make it an obstacle course. Most people do not want to make an account or subscribe in order to contribute. However, PayPal or GoogleWallet can make donators feel safer. It is also easier and quicker than entering all the credit card information.

Be sure to have a properly linked and easy to navigate section on how to get involved. This is great for people who cannot afford to donate, but would still like to help. Even if it is as simple as soliciting social media attention by asking users to like or share content.
