Web Design: Persuasive Design and Triggers to Increase Conversions

Improving your basic design elements for the modern web can boost sales and site performance. By adding persuasive design, you can enhance conversion rates by implementing click triggers and point-click. This design technique will especially benefit your e-commerce sites.

Design for Mood

For typical e-commerce sites, the basis of the design follows the mood or trend your brand is trying to sell. Customers place a lot of value and trust on the design layout of these websites because it puts them in the mindset of using the product/service being promoted. These feelings arise consciously and subconsciously.

The persuasive design enables the customer to shorten the sales cycle. Also, allows you to be informed on how the appearance of your site plays a potential role in your customer’s willingness to make a purchase.

Emotions

Think about the last 5 things you have purchased. Why did you purchase them? Was it because you needed it or you bought it because it made you feel better. Purchasing gas for your car to run is different than buying a candy bar to satisfy a craving.

There are purchases based on logic and purchases based on emotions. The car was out of gas, so you needed to fill it up to get to work. The candy bar purchase was simply based on emotions because you felt like you needed the candy bar to make you feel better.

Two-Sides

There are two sides to the buying decision. The left hemisphere of your brain illustrates the rationale of buying decisions and the right side is the phycology influence. Buying rationale can involve things like economics, risk, and the strategic implications of the purchase.  Buying psychology can involve your fears, ego, beliefs, and social status.

You are not trying to trick your visitors into doing something, rather you are making them comfortable and confident enough to make the decision to purchase.

Persuasive design is about the intent of the designer and the brand.

Increase Engagement

The goal is to make a design that positively influences your visitors.

Clear Information

Overwhelming your consumer with paragraphs upon paragraphs of information will harm their comfortability. They may feel underqualified for buying your product and ultimately turn them away.

The site should act as a conversion. Pre-planning by figuring out what questions your visitors may have will add to the conversation technique of your site. This shows you are listening.

Within seconds of landing on your site, your visitors should know who you are, what you provide, and why they should pick you.

Visual Appeal

Visual appeal is what hooks your visitors to your site. This is more than just colors and aesthetics.  We are talking clarity in the sense that your users have a clear pathway of where they should go on your site. Be simple and free of clutter and make sure to match your visitor’s expectations. A negative experience associates a negative perception of your brand.

Make sure to have visual hierarchy! This is the practice of making the visual element you want users to click on very appealing.  This element should stand out the most and persuade your users to click it.

You can make certain elements larger and more vibrant. Check out techniques online.

There are many techniques out there to make your conversion rates skyrocket from simple persuasion techniques.
