It’s already the holiday season. It seems like Labor Day was last weekend, right? But here we are Thanksgiving is in our rear-view and the New Year is rapidly approaching.
It is a busy time of year, which means it is a busy time for your website.
Now is the time to pay extra attention to your website so you can optimize it for the holidays and start the New Year off on the right foot
Give Yourself a Checkup
As individuals, we tend to indulge during the holidays, whether that means a few extra inches on our waistlines or having too much eggnog at the office Christmas party. What I am saying is, sometimes we ignore our health until it’s time to follow through on those New Year’s Resolutions.
- Don’t’ ignore the health of your website. Give it a Checkup.
- The same basic principles apply as when you visit the doctor. This is just a general overview of performance.
- Is everything on your site working as it should? Make sure all forms work, such as any kind of sign-up or contact form. Make sure all pages are loading correctly.
- With increased traffic this time of year it is important that your website is working perfectly.
Stay Current
- Review and revise your copy.
- Is your branding consistent?
- Is your language clear and concise?
- If you have outdated information or images on your website be sure to replace them as soon as possible with up to date content.
Gauge Traffic
If you’ve been keeping up with your analytics you already have an educated guess as to what kind of traffic you will generate this year.
- Keep these numbers in mind, that as you revise your website.
- Consider whether or not your server can handle the traffic you are anticipating.
- Your site going down this season could be a disaster.
Be Responsive
- Consider that in the United States, 25% of internet users only access the internet on a mobile device.
- As devices become increasingly portable and trends such as wearable tech on the horizon, that number is only going to increase.
- Having a website with responsive design is ideal as opposite to two separate sites, one for mobile and on for desktops.
If you don’t already have a website site that is responsive for mobile devices, you are already behind. You are denying yourself 25% of your potential audience right off the bat.
