Pittsburgh general contractor and construction management firm, General Dick Building Company, needed a fresh website that portrayed their company values, goals, and capabilities in a modern, sophisticated way.
Dick Building Company came to Blue Archer to create a website that would better educate prospective clients about their service offerings. The team also recognized they needed a major branding refresh in order to create consistency throughout all their marketing materials, including their website. It was Blue Archer’s responsibility to create a website solution that would solve these challenges and showcase Dick Building Company as the premier choice for complex and demanding projects.
The resulting website is modern, intuitive, and timeless. We built a project portfolio that includes project categorization by market for users who would be interested in exploring Dick Building Co.’s previous work. A news archive enables Dick Building Co. to post articles highlighting additional projects and company news.
The sitemap needed to meet the needs of different users including developers, owners, architects, real estate professionals, and more. Users would need to learn more about the brand, quickly view past projects, understand the scope of services, and explore service markets. During the strategy phase we landed on the following intuitive categorization structure: Who We Are, How We Build, What We Build. We organized most of the internal and contextual pages within this structure, enabling users to easily navigate through an informative and efficient website journey. All website content and imagery than drove users towards the final call to action – to contact Dick Building Co.
The goal of the design for this project was sophisticated simplicity. We wanted to build the Dick Building Co. team a website that would be timeless and effective for years to come. We used the logo mark texture throughout the homepage to help brand the design and pulled from the geometric elements to embellish additional content sections. Professional building imagery grounds the design, and a minimal hamburger menu enables the rotating graphics on the homepage to take center stage.
The project portfolio supports categorization tags and showcases the client, architect and delivery method information as well as multiple images. A flexible description section enables Dick Building Co. to add contextual information about the project process. The news archive is a separate module that Dick Building Co. uses to showcase recent projects in an alternative format. Though these two modules were identified early in the sales process, as the project progressed, we identified several optional functionality enhancements that would not only serve site visitors but also ease Dick Building Co.’s ongoing website population and maintenance tasks. These enhancements included a streamlined mega menu, custom internal template sections, blog database tagging, and team member light-boxes.
The new website showcases Dick Building Co. as a relationship driven company that combines the experience and resources of a tenured construction firm with the service of a private family-owned enterprise. We look forward to continuing to support the Dick Building Company team as they explore additional website and marketing enhancements over time.
