Selecting an appropriate tool for email marketing can be tricky. We need something with design freedom, affordable pricing, and features to make our lives a bit easier when it comes to the trade. We are going to go over some of the options MailChimp has to offer.
Subscribers
There are a few different options for people subscribing to your mailing list. Subscriber profiles allows those following you to edit their own profile. They can update their email preference and mailing options.
You can also set what level of involvement people who have access to your account has.
-
Admins: Total access to MailChimp. Only Admins can handle billing and assign user privileges.
-
Managers: Design templates, send campaigns, manage mailing lists, and view reports.
-
Authors: Notify managers and admins when a campaign is ready to go. They can create, design, and edit campaigns, but not send them.
-
Views: Log in and see reports. They don't have access to campaign creation or list management.
You can read more about it here.
This is great for those running the campaign as well as those receiving the emails.
Targeting
I just touched base on subscribing to the newsletter, but the real fun comes with targeting. MailChimp makes it easy to reach exactly who you need to.
You can divide your lists, which would be different groups you send emails to, into segments.
Segment Options:
-
New segment
-
Saved segment
-
Date Added
-
Info Changed
-
Email Address
-
First Name or Last Name
-
Member Rating
-
Groups
-
Location
-
Signup Source
-

-
Conversations Activity
-

-
Email Client
-
VIPs
-
E-commerce activity
-
Social data
-
Mandrill Activity
-
Goal Activity
-
Goal Last Visited
-
SurveyMonkey Activity
The list may be long, but it is helpful to have this many options. You can read more about it here.
Goal Autoresponder allows you to include a snippet of code on your website to automatically email subscribers that click on certain pages. This is targeting at its highest level.
For example, if someone lingers on your "Request a Quote" page for awhile, it may send some material that you typically send to leads or potential clients. Otherwise, you can just use that information for your segments.
Email marketing is pointless if it is not tailored. Your time and energy shouldn't just end up in the Junk Folder.
Design
You will see similar design options that you will with other email marketing programs such as Constant Contact.
MailChimp's Design Features Include:
- Coding your own template using HTML and merge tags
- Think of merge tags like "shortcode" in Wordpress
- Pre-designed templates
- Drag and drop content editor
- You can create your email using outlook or Gmail and transport it over to MailChimp
Now that you know some of the key features, you can make a decision on how you manage your email marketing campaign. If you have any questions about email marketing or if you would like someone to set-up a campaign for you, contact a Blue Archer professional.
